چکیده

In recent decades, solid fuel combustion propulsion of spacecraft has become one the most popular choices for rocket systems. The reasons this success are a wide range applications, lower production costs, simplicity, and safety. rocket’s plumes leave nozzle at high temperatures; hence, knowledge produced infrared (IR) emissions is crucial aspect during design tests motors. Furthermore, plume composition given by N2, H2, H2O, CO CO2, while motors (SRM) additionally inject some particles, metal additives in propellant grain, i.e., aluminum oxide (Al2O3) particles. main issue detection particles remaining atmosphere due to exhaust gas system that could have effects on ozone depletion. experimental characterization SRM presence alumina can be conducted using different optical techniques. present study aims review promising ones with description optics their potential applications measurements. common measurement techniques spectroscopy imaging, IR imaging. UV–VIS measurements, shadowgraph, Schlieren methods. choice these among many others ability without influencing physical conditions existing around object. This paper presents technical results concerning engines above-mentioned methods reveals feasibility applied.

Model-Based Diagnostics and Prognostics for Solid Rocket Motors

MODIFIED) A progress in development of the physics model based diagnostic and prognostic system for solid rocket motors (SRMs) of the new generation of the crew exploration vehicles is reported. The performance model (PM) of the internal ballistics of large segmented SRMs in the regime of steady burning in the presence of the case breach fault is presented. This model takes into account propell...

Model-based Diagnostics for Rocket Systems

A diagnostic software package is currently being developed at NASA Lewis Research Center that utilizes qualitative model-based reasoning techniques. These techniques can provide diagnostic information about the operational condition of the modeled rocket engine system or subsystem. The diagnostic package combines a qualitative model solver with a constraint suspension algorithm. The constraint ...

Monte Carlo Simulation of Particle Radiation in High Altitude Solid Rocket Plumes (Invited)

Several recently developed numerical schemes are used in an integrated framework to simulate the plume flow from a representative solid propellant rocket at an altitude of 114 km. In nonequilibrium regions the gas is modeled using the direct simulation Monte Carlo method, while a particle simulation method based on a simplified approximation of the Boltmann equation is used in near-equilibrium ...
